The complaint was filed with the <strong data-start=\"543\" data-end=\"568\">Department of Justice<\/strong> on August 20, led by <strong data-start=\"603\" data-end=\"637\">Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"641\" data-end=\"876\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to Lumagui, the retailers caught had vape products <strong data-start=\"716\" data-end=\"794\">without excise tax, without revenue stamps, and without proper registration with the BIR<\/strong>. Most of these were confiscated in a series of operations in various areas.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"878\" data-end=\"1131\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The charges filed include <strong data-start=\"912\" data-end=\"927\">tax evasion<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"929\" data-end=\"951\">illegal possession<\/strong> of tax-exempt products, and <strong data-start=\"1005\" data-end=\"1048\">failure to submit excise tax returns<\/strong>. A large number of <strong data-start=\"1069\" data-end=\"1096\">illegal vape products<\/strong> were confiscated during the operations.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1133\" data-end=\"1434\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Before this, the BIR has also filed large cases against well-known vape brands. In February 2024, a group was charged with \u20b11.2 billion in taxes.
