My fianc\u00e9 is 31, also an engineer. We both work abroad, both have good careers. Almost everyone around us says we're the \"perfect couple.\" We've been together for <strong data-start=\"581\" data-end=\"619\">14 years since college<\/strong>, and this <strong data-start=\"632\" data-end=\"663\">December, we're getting married<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"668\" data-end=\"1109\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Everything for the wedding\u2014from the venue, the gown, the food, the photo and video coverage, and other details\u2014<strong data-start=\"769\" data-end=\"790\">he paid for it. It would cost almost <strong data-start=\"811\" data-end=\"826\">\u20b11.5 million<\/strong>, and he never stressed me out about it. He always told me, <em data-start=\"904\" data-end=\"964\">\u201cAll you have to do is show up to our wedding.\u201d<\/em> When you think about it, it sounds like a fairytale love story, doesn\u2019t it? It sounds like most people\u2019s dream. But there\u2019s a part of our story that not many people know.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vce-text-block\"><div class=\"vce-text-block-wrapper vce\" id=\"el-953c5d9a\" data-vce-do-apply=\"all el-953c5d9a\"><p data-start=\"1154\" data-end=\"1519\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">In <strong data-start=\"1160\" data-end=\"1168\">2022<\/strong>, he made a mistake. Yes, <strong data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1224\">he cheated on me<\/strong>. To this day, even though I've forgiven him, the pain and the question <em data-start=\"1328\" data-end=\"1350\">\u201cWhy did he do it?\u201d<\/em> still come back to my mind. Before, I always told myself and my friends, <strong data-start=\"1412\" data-end=\"1455\">\u201cThere's no second chance for a cheater.\u201d<\/strong> But when I was in this situation myself, it was different.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1521\" data-end=\"2016\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Why did I forgive him? Because <strong data-start=\"1551\" data-end=\"1591\">I understand why it happened<\/strong>. This is not to justify what he did, but I want to be honest. He <strong data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"1715\">asked me to marry him twice<\/strong>, and I turned him down both times. Not because I didn't love him, but because <strong data-start=\"1790\" data-end=\"1812\">I wasn't ready<\/strong>. During our <strong data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1855\">14-year relationship<\/strong>, he was the one who always put in the effort\u2014he was the one who always loved, cared, and adjusted. But me? I have to admit, <strong data-start=\"1969\" data-end=\"2013\">I didn't really appreciate him back then<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2018\" data-end=\"2322\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">He said this was one of the reasons why he sought affection from others. The woman, he said, was <strong data-start=\"2108\" data-end=\"2132\">caring and affectionate<\/strong>, something I hadn't been able to give much of before. It hurt to hear, but it was a wake-up call for me. That's when I realized how much I loved her and how important she was in my life.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vce-text-block\"><div class=\"vce-text-block-wrapper vce\" id=\"el-b91e3166\" data-vce-do-apply=\"all el-b91e3166\"><p data-start=\"2358\" data-end=\"2723\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">After all, <strong data-start=\"2379\" data-end=\"2398\">he chose me<\/strong>. He left the woman and did everything to show that he loved only me. He changed, and I could feel it. He became more open, he made more of an effort to be transparent. He showed that he was willing to fix everything for us. And honestly, my trust in him came back\u2014little by little, even though it was hard.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2725\" data-end=\"2998\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Now, as the wedding approaches, I should be feeling so happy and excited. But the truth is? <strong data-start=\"2841\" data-end=\"2866\">I'm still scared.<\/strong> Sometimes I think, <em data-start=\"2886\" data-end=\"2915\">\u201cWhat if it happens again?\u201d<\/em> Was it right that I <strong data-start=\"2927\" data-end=\"2964\">gave him a second chance<\/strong>? Was it right that I trusted him again?<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vce-text-block\"><div class=\"vce-text-block-wrapper vce\" id=\"el-d017e9e3\" data-vce-do-apply=\"all el-d017e9e3\"><p data-start=\"3036\" data-end=\"3366\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">I love him. I know he loves me too. I won't deny it. But sometimes, I think about <strong data-start=\"3132\" data-end=\"3148\">testing him<\/strong> to see if he's really changed\u2014even though I know that's not a good idea. I want to make sure I won't get hurt again. But how? There are no guarantees in any relationship, right?<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"3368\" data-end=\"3703\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Maybe that's why I'm telling you this story now, because I want to let all this weight out. I can't tell anyone. I don't want them to judge him. I don't want them to ruin our relationship, especially since the wedding is coming up. In everyone's eyes, we're the perfect couple.
