I love my boyfriend. We've been in a relationship for a few years now. He's a good person, and he accepts everything I have\u2014including my mom. We're planning to get married, but\u2026 my mom doesn't want to.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1077\" data-end=\"1407\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">He doesn't say it directly, but I can feel it. When we talk about marriage, his eyes turn sad. When the neighbors tease him about being a mother-in-law, he smiles but you can see it's hard. Until one night, while we were washing dishes together, he suddenly spoke.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1409\" data-end=\"1590\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cWhen you get married, who will take care of me?\u201d he asked, while wiping the glass. I just kept quiet. I stopped scrubbing the plate. I didn't know how to answer.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1592\" data-end=\"1679\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI'm not saying you shouldn't get married,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut what about me?\u201d<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1681\" data-end=\"1859\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The question is very heavy. And it feels even heavier that <em data-start=\"1747\" data-end=\"1772\">love is a prison<\/em>. I love my mother, but I also love my dream of having a family of my own.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1861\" data-end=\"2023\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The next day, I worked up the courage to talk to him in the living room. I sat next to him while he was watching TV. I held his hand, which was cold and trembling.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2025\" data-end=\"2260\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cMom, I will never leave you. Even if I get married, you will still be my mother. You will still be the one I will come home to. We can live together in the same house. She didn't say anything right away. She just hugged me, tightly.
