It was legal on paper, but emotionally it was fake. In return? U.S. citizenship.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1402\" data-end=\"1551\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I didn't know how to feel at that moment. I laughed at first. But as he clarified that the offer was probably real, I gradually calmed down.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"1630\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt\u2019s just temporary,\u201d he said. \u201cOnce I get citizenship, we\u2019ll still be together.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1632\" data-end=\"1751\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">It got me thinking. Was it that easy for him to compromise our relationship? Was it that easy to turn marriage into a business?<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1753\" data-end=\"1953\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">As he got more and more excited about the plan, I got more and more confused. What if he fell in love with the girl? What if the process took too long? What if immigration found out about us?<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1955\" data-end=\"2214\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I tried to understand him. He just wanted our dreams to come true. But I couldn't help but feel hurt. Wouldn't it be better if we faced the process together, even if it took a long time, even if it was difficult\u2014than to find a way that would cost us honor and relationships?<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2216\" data-end=\"2370\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I was even more confused when the widow sent a message. Introducing herself. She was kind. There was only one condition: no emotional attachment, and I had to agree.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2372\" data-end=\"2484\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">That night, I couldn't sleep.
