We've been in a relationship for almost <strong data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"687\">three years<\/strong>. From the moment we met, there seemed to be an <strong data-start=\"738\" data-end=\"759\">instant connection<\/strong>. We quickly became close, and we became one. Since then, we've never been apart\u2014through thick and thin, we've been together.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"889\" data-end=\"1181\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">We were planning to <strong data-start=\"910\" data-end=\"943\">get married next year<\/strong>. We're saving up for everything\u2014wedding, house, our future together. Everything is going well, everything is happy. I'm so lucky to have him. <strong data-start=\"1077\" data-end=\"1127\">He's loving, thoughtful, a great cook<\/strong>, and always there when I need him.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1183\" data-end=\"1235\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">But one day came that <strong data-start=\"1215\" data-end=\"1234\">changed everything<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1237\" data-end=\"1603\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">There was a reunion on my father's side of the family. Of course, I brought my girlfriend along so that my relatives could get to know her better. At first, it was fun, chatting, laughing. But as time went on, we noticed that some of my relatives seemed to be <strong data-start=\"1469\" data-end=\"1500\">examining her very closely<\/strong>. One even asked what her grandparents' last names were. That's where <strong data-start=\"1579\" data-end=\"1602\">it all started<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1605\" data-end=\"1878\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Unexpectedly, we found out that we were <strong data-start=\"1653\" data-end=\"1691\">second cousins<\/strong>. In other words, <strong data-start=\"1713\" data-end=\"1742\">we were related by blood<\/strong> but we didn't know it, because our parents came from different provinces and our families only met now.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1880\" data-end=\"2145\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong data-start=\"1880\" data-end=\"1924\">It felt like heaven and earth had fallen on me.<\/strong> I didn't know what to feel. We just looked at each other, unable to say anything. We loved each other, but <strong data-start=\"2051\" data-end=\"2070\">was it still right?<\/strong> Are we feeling wrong if we didn't know the truth then?<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2147\" data-end=\"2413\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">When we got home, we didn't talk right away. We were both stunned. We talked to each other the next day, <strong data-start=\"2246\" data-end=\"2280\">he was crying, I was crying too.<\/strong> He said that if the situation could have been different, I hope we wouldn't have had blood relations. But he also said that he couldn't afford to lose me.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2415\" data-end=\"2791\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">We did some research. According to Philippine law, <strong data-start=\"2462\" data-end=\"2506\">marrying second cousins \u200b\u200bis legal<\/strong>. It is not prohibited. But it is different when it comes to <strong data-start=\"2560\" data-end=\"2582\">emotions and family<\/strong>. Even though it is legal, there are <strong data-start=\"2626\" data-end=\"2652\">people who don't agree<\/strong> with it. What if our parents oppose it? What if other people judge us? What if we have children and there are complications?<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2793\" data-end=\"2840\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong data-start=\"2793\" data-end=\"2840\">So many questions, so few answers.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2842\" data-end=\"3158\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">There were nights when we just cried when we called. There were days when we felt like running away and living where no one knew us. But we chose to <strong data-start=\"3012\" data-end=\"3035\">stop and think<\/strong>. We consulted a <strong data-start=\"3056\" data-end=\"3066\">doctor<\/strong>, and they said that the risk to our future child was low because we were not first cousins.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"3160\" data-end=\"3451\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">But what was harder was <strong data-start=\"3184\" data-end=\"3208\">facing the family.<\/strong> We gradually admitted the truth to them. By God's grace, some <strong data-start=\"3283\" data-end=\"3294\">understood<\/strong>, but there were still some who <strong data-start=\"3324\" data-end=\"3337\">could not accept<\/strong>. And that's what hurts\u2014it feels like you have to <strong data-start=\"3385\" data-end=\"3415\">fight for your love<\/strong> even though you've done nothing wrong.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"3453\" data-end=\"3708\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Now, we have chosen <strong data-start=\"3475\" data-end=\"3509\">not to continue with the marriage for now.<\/strong> Not because we don't like each other anymore, but because we want to be sure. We want to be strong, not just because of feelings, but because <strong data-start=\"3663\" data-end=\"3708\">we have chosen this with all our hearts and minds.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"3710\" data-end=\"3926\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">To those who read this, I just ask\u2014<strong data-start=\"3749\" data-end=\"3809\">is it wrong to love if what you feel is true?<\/strong> If you didn't choose the situation but chose to fight for love, do you have the right to be happy?<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"3928\" data-end=\"4190\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">I don't know the ending of our story yet.
