According to LTO Assistant Secretary <strong data-start=\"522\" data-end=\"548\">Atty. Vigor Mendoza II<\/strong>, this is in accordance with the order of President <strong data-start=\"588\" data-end=\"623\">Ferdinand \u201cBongbong\u201d Marcos Jr.<\/strong> and supported by DOTr Secretary <strong data-start=\"655\" data-end=\"670\">Vince Dizon<\/strong> for safer roads.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"702\" data-end=\"1042\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The LTO issued a <strong data-start=\"725\" data-end=\"739\">memorandum<\/strong> on June 16 containing the guidelines for the operation. They target to start the <strong data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"852\">nationwide crackdown<\/strong> in <strong data-start=\"856\" data-end=\"871\">August 2025<\/strong>. Mendoza warned: those who do not comply may undergo a stricter process of <strong data-start=\"966\" data-end=\"978\">registration<\/strong> and vehicle repair before being allowed on the road again.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1044\" data-end=\"1391\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to the law, <strong data-start=\"1063\" data-end=\"1100\">vehicles with expired registrations<\/strong> can be confiscated and fined <strong data-start=\"1145\" data-end=\"1156\">\u20b110,000<\/strong>, and must first undergo a <strong data-start=\"1184\" data-end=\"1213\">roadworthiness inspection<\/strong> before being returned. Those with <strong data-start=\"1241\" data-end=\"1298\">broken windshields, bald tires, protruding parts<\/strong>, or excessive smoke will be considered <strong data-start=\"1331\" data-end=\"1355\">unsafe to use<\/strong> and will not be allowed to travel.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1393\" data-end=\"1599\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Mendoza added that there were <strong data-start=\"1423\" data-end=\"1451\">fatal accidents<\/strong> in the past caused by <strong data-start=\"1469\" data-end=\"1502\">defective vehicle parts<\/strong>. Therefore, the LTO's goal is to <strong data-start=\"1529\" data-end=\"1564\">reduce road crashes in the country by 35% by 2028.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1601\" data-end=\"1908\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to WHO data, approximately <strong data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1659\">1.3 million people<\/strong> die every year in road accidents, and in the Philippines, up to <strong data-start=\"1735\" data-end=\"1757\">32 people die every day<\/strong>.
