A total of <strong data-start=\"524\" data-end=\"565\">179,000 pieces of vape and accessories<\/strong> were confiscated from the targeted areas.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"611\" data-end=\"962\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to Atty. Van Homer Angluben of the <strong data-start=\"648\" data-end=\"675\">NBI-Cybercrime Division<\/strong>, the operation was first conducted under a mission order, while the subsequent ones were buy-bust operations. It was learned that the vapes were being sold through <strong data-start=\"832\" data-end=\"857\">online messaging apps<\/strong>, and payment was made using <strong data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"927\">cryptocurrency or casino chips<\/strong>, to avoid physical cash.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"964\" data-end=\"1201\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Three <strong data-start=\"972\" data-end=\"983\">foreigners<\/strong> and two <strong data-start=\"996\" data-end=\"1020\">Filipino employees<\/strong> were arrested in the operation. The foreigners are said to be warehouse owners and middlemen for a <strong data-start=\"1122\" data-end=\"1142\">Chinese supplier<\/strong>, while the Filipinos are online buyers.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1203\" data-end=\"1553\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Smuggling products are said to have a major impact on <strong data-start=\"1264\" data-end=\"1284\">government revenue<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1288\" data-end=\"1312\">public health<\/strong>. According to the NBI, the excise tax is double the price of vape products, resulting in a large <strong data-start=\"1409\" data-end=\"1430\">tax loss<\/strong>. In addition, <strong data-start=\"1447\" data-end=\"1482\">there is no assurance of the quality<\/strong> of these products, which could potentially harm the health of consumers.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1825\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The suspects are facing charges for violation of <strong data-start=\"1603\" data-end=\"1629\">Republic Act No. 11900<\/strong>, which seeks to regulate the sale of vaporized nicotine and non-nicotine products, as well as the <strong data-start=\"1731\" data-end=\"1749\">Tax Reform Act<\/strong>.
