She said the hospital did not consult them about the decision.<\/span><\/p><p class=\" translation-block\" data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"860\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">In <strong data-start=\"603\" data-end=\"614\">February<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"676\">Adriana Smith<\/strong>, a <strong data-start=\"684\" data-end=\"706\">registered nurse<\/strong>, experienced a severe <strong data-start=\"603\" data-end=\"614\">headache<\/strong> while she was <strong data-start=\"723\" data-end=\"743\">9 weeks pregnant<\/strong>. After being examined, it was discovered that she had <strong data-start=\"795\" data-end=\"810\">blood clots<\/strong> in her brain, causing her to be declared brain-dead.<\/span><\/p><p class=\" translation-block\" data-start=\"862\" data-end=\"1170\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Because of Georgia's <strong data-start=\"871\" data-end=\"899\">strict abortion laws<\/strong>\u2014which prohibit abortions when a <strong data-start=\"960\" data-end=\"989\">fetal heartbeat (6 weeks)<\/strong> is heard\u2014the hospital was reluctant to take her off the ventilator.
