He has <\/span>anti-D antibody<\/b>, a rare blood component used for medicine against <\/span>Newborn Hemolytic Disease (HDFN)<\/b>, which has helped nearly <\/span>2.4 million babies<\/b>. Because of this, he was called <\/span>\"Golden Arm\"<\/b>.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

According to <\/span>Australian Red Cross Lifeblood<\/b>, he started donating blood at the age of 18 after undergoing lung surgery at 14 and receiving multiple <\/span>blood transfusions<\/b>. Since then, he donated <\/span>every two weeks until 81 years old<\/b>.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

According to his daughter, <\/span>Tracey Mellowship<\/b>, Harrison is very proud to help other people, especially if it doesn't cost money or pain. <\/span>\"He said it doesn't hurt to donate, and maybe one day, we'll need it too.\"<\/b> His son and two grandchildren both received <\/span>anti-D immunization<\/b>.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The <\/span>HDFN<\/b> occurs when the blood of a pregnant woman and her baby are not compatible. Because of this, the mother's immune system attacks the baby's red blood cells, which can cause anemia, heart failure, or death. Before <\/span>anti-D treatment was developed in the 1960s<\/b>, about <\/span>50% of affected babies died<\/b>.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

It is still not known how Harrison developed <\/span>anti-D antibodies<\/b>, but experts think it may be due to transfusions during his youth.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Currently, less than <\/span>200 donors<\/b> in Australia have anti-D blood, but they help <\/span>45,000 pregnant women and babies every year<\/b>.
