According to Dr. Jocelyn Celero, a migration expert, most of them are permanent residents of the United States who temporarily returned to the Philippines to settle their Social Security System (SSS) documents and check on the status of their properties.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">According to experts, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the perspective of many Filipinos regarding life abroad. Many are seeking better opportunities, particularly in countries with better healthcare systems, higher income, and faster naturalization processes. The United States remains the primary destination for those wishing to become permanent residents.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Aside from the United States, countries like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand continue to attract Filipinos through their migration programs. Despite the challenges, the better quality of life, education, and healthcare in these countries are significant factors in the decision of Filipinos to migrate.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">This trend is expected to continue, especially amidst changes in the global economy. While some balikbayans return to the country to manage their remaining properties, more are choosing to settle permanently abroad. According to Celero, it's not just work that drives their migration, but also the pursuit of a better future for their families.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">The continued migration of Filipinos serves as a reminder of the challenges faced in the country.
